Can you describe your responsibilities as a Health Director?

2. What competencies do you believe make a good leader?

- A strategic, focused, likeable, ethical, and trustworthy person.
3.In your opinion what are some strengths a leader should have?
-
-A leader needs to be able to communicate with their staff. If staff does not feel open to share their opinions with their boss, then organization goals will not be met. Therefore, I have a open door policy were employees are welcomed to come in any time and talk about ideas, problems, conflicts, solutions, etc.

-A leader must have an iron fist to get things done in the work area.

-Good leaders should be people-centric, especially in a healthcare field
4.How do you motivate your employees?
-
Employees are given flexible schedules. If something an emergency comes up and they can’t make it to work employees are free to do the work from home.

Staff is also encouraged to work on new projects that can benefit the department.

If there is leftover money in the budget and a staff member wants to attend a conference, and this conference benefits their knowledge in public health they will receive the funds to go.
5. What does being “professional” mean to you?

Being pleasant and polite to people, even if you don’t like them.

Taking work seriously.

Being open to feedback and advice.
6. How would you describe emotional intelligence?

Ability to work with a team

Being able to properly communicate with others

Understanding the emotions and gestures of those around you
7. Do you believe that a person can grow as a leader?

- yes with the proper determination and mindset.
8. Do you believe that a leader should display proper communication skills?
-Yes this is a very important skill to have as a leader. Without the proper communication skills you will not get your message through to your staff members.
9.Do you believe ethics and values are important to follow?
-
-Being a leader means you have to set an example to your employees, and therefore I believe in being ethical in my work. I lead by example.

-it is also important for staff to know the organizational values, the public is who we serve as a health department.
10.How would you describe your leadership style?
-
Open door policy, and leading by example.

I try to coach and encourage my staff so that they can be successful and work to their fullest potential.
